What is an Embedded Librarian?

The Embedded Librarian Program allows you to request a librarian for your research-based course.  Working within Blackboard, a librarian can collaborate with you to provide enhanced library service and assistance to your students.

Is an Embedded Librarian right for my course?

  • Would your students benefit from tutorials, research guides and discussion boards provided by a Librarian right in Blackboard?
  • Does your course have a research component?  Would you like your students to be able to find authoritative, scholarly sources?
  • Would you like your students to move past Google?  Could your students benefit from knowing which of the databases available to them are best for their research paper or project?
  • Would your students benefit from being able to ask a librarian a question right in Blackboard?

Availability is limited to select Librarians who have been Blackboard certified.  Courses will be selected for review on a first come first serve basis and based on the discussed time requirements and level of course involvement. No course will be accepted prior to a discussion with a librarian pertaining to the specific research assignment or needs of the course.

Embedded Librarians do not interpret instructor’s assignments for students, discuss the marking rubric with students, or grade any assignments.  They will refer any non-research, course related questions to the instructor.
