Library Guidelines

Borrowing Books

  • Currently enrolled SUNY Erie students and current SUNY Erie employees may borrow up to fifteen books at a time, for thirty (30) days, from any of the SUNY Erie libraries. A current SUNY Erie ID card is required to borrow materials.
  • Residents of Erie County, NY, including alumni, may borrow up to ten books, for thirty (30) days, from the SUNY Erie North or South Campus libraries by using picture ID and registering as a patron.
  • Those who work in Erie County, NY, may borrow up to ten books, for thirty (30) days, from the SUNY Erie North or South Campus libraries by using proof of employment and registering as a patron.
  • Current SUNY students/faculty from campuses other than SUNY Erie may borrow up to ten books, for thirty (30) days, from the SUNY Erie City, North or South Campus libraries as part of the SUNY Open Access program. Current SUNY ID and proof of address are required.
  • AcademicSHARE users may borrow up to ten books, for thirty (30) days, from the SUNY Erie North, South, or City Campus libraries. A valid ID card from the patron’s home institution allows patrons to borrow from and have on-site access to library materials at other participating WNYLRC member academic libraries.

Borrowing Laptops and iPads

  • Only SUNY Erie students, faculty and staff can borrow the laptop computers and iPads available in the SUNY Erie libraries. Laptops and iPads are for in-library use only and may be borrowed for up to 2 hours.
  • Laptop and iPad users must have a current SUNY Erie ID card and an active campus network account.

Lost or Late Materials

  • Late Returns: The owner of the ID used to borrow an item is responsible for its return. Please check the due date stamped in the borrowed items or online via My Library Account and return them on or before that date.
  • Lost Materials: If an item is lost, please contact the library immediately. An item not returned four weeks after its due date is considered lost, and a bill will be sent to the borrower for its cost, plus a $10 billing fee. All fees and fines are nonrefundable.
  • If an item is out of print and no cost can be determined, the borrower will be charged $20 for paperbacks and $40 for hardbound and the $10 billing fee. Audiovisual material will be billed at the replacement cost.
