SUNY Erie Library Resource Center

Library Advocacy / Library Advocacy Day

Everyone loves libraries – but we can’t live on love alone!NYS Library Aid funding comes from our state budgets, and we need your help to convince our legislators and others that libraries matter!

Looking At The Numbers

The short answer is...a LOT:

  • State Library Aid: $147.1M (Currently at $99.6 million)
  • Library Construction: $69.4M (Currently at $34 million)
  • Library Materials Aid: Increase to $11.00 ceiling/pupil (Currently at $6.83/pupil)

Your ECC Libraries receive state aid directly through the Coordinated Collection Development Assistance (CCDA) grants that our regional library advocacy council (WNYLRC) sends out to academic libraries each year. Each year, ECC receives roughly $13,000. Depending on the year, this can be the bulk of what they get to spend (for books, journal and database subscription, etc.) in a year!

And the impact of annual underfunding really adds up...see the "Cumulative Gap" bar at the right in the graph below:
