What things are today, is not what they were.

The names and borders we know today, are not necessarily those of the past.  Buffalo was not incorporated as a city until 1832. 

Therefore, consider other terms associated with the area's early history (e.g., Niagara region, Black Rock).  Original names may also have different spellings (e.g., Chictawauga).
