GENDER PRONOUNS TO SUPPORT IDENTITY: CREATING A CAMPUS OF DIFFERENCEWhile the SIS is not the nexus of student life, aligning it with an institutions mission and values reinforces the efforts of support and affinity groups, such as those that work with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual or allied communities. To smooth the way for this shift, the university offers an array of seminars, including LGBTQIA ally training; workshops focusing on gender, ethnicity, or religion; and forums for nationally renowned transgender speakers to help campus community members expand their knowledge of diversity-related topics. Because these courses often satisfy one or more requirements in the Elon University Core Curriculum, students representing a wide variety of demographics enroll in them, refuting the preconception of a cadre of like-minded students taking courses on diversity.
