Campus Efforts to Promote an Inclusive Climate in SUNY for AAPI Students, Faculty, and StaffRecent acts of violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people in the US has led colleges and universities to reflect on how they are addressing acts of bias and discrimination against their AAPI students, faculty, and staff. On Wednesday April 21 from Noon-1, the CPD hosted a panel discussion attended by 55 faculty and staff featuring three SUNY Chief Diversity Officers (Sam Caldwell at Albany, Joy Harewood at Optometry, and Ronald Milon at FIT) who talked about steps their campuses have taken to raise awareness about the issue and create a climate where AAPI students, faculty and staff feel safe from harm as an integral part of their campus community. We also heard from E.K. Tan, the Chair of Stony Brook’s Department of Asian and Asian American Studies department, who framed the issue and provided some context.
